In Kerala, Police Brutality on Protest March in Support of HCU students

This morning a peaceful protest march on the HCU issue in Calicut was organised by the Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) Calicut District Committee. The local Calicut town Police attacked the protest march near the Calicut Head Post Office. Protesting activists, including the girls, were beaten up by the Police and then arrested.

Around 40 activists, who were severely injured, have been admitted to Beach Government Hospital. Nahas Mala, the State President of SIO Kerala, says, “There is a well planned script behind Calicut Police brutality. Demanding justice for UoH students, SIO conducted a march to the Calicut Head Post Office. Parents of UoH protesters Ramees and Munsif, were present . Once the march reached head post office premise, police brutally attacked SIO activists including girls. Almost 40 people are physically injured and admitted at Beach Government Hospital. Police arrested 15 activists including girls.”

Parents of Munsif Kakkodi and Ramees Velom, the students of HCU who have been  arrested in Hyderabad, took part in the march. Later leaders of the SIO Kerala state committee who went to inquire about the issue were arrested too. SIO Kerala General Secretary Shamseer Ibrahim, State Secretaries Amjad Ali E M and Shabeer Koduvally, State Committee members Mujeeb Rahman S, Salih Kottappally , Naeem Kodiyathur are among the arrested. They have not been released yet.

    There were incidents in kerala where police used granides and bullets against sfi activists…..what is this……There is no space for SIO in college campuses across kerala…so they would choose head post offices to register their protests before raising this issue in campus.
