May Day v/s Make In India: Workers assert from Gurgaon to Jaipur

Amit Akash

Another May Day comes amidst severe repressions from the ruling class and its neoliberal offensive and divisive tactics, and the sparks of militant struggles by garment workers in Bangalore, Tea plantations workers in Munnar and North Bengal, Automobile workers in Maruti, Honda, Autofit, Shriram Piston, Bellsonica, Tata Motors, Tata Marcopolo, Toyota, mining workers in North Karnataka, Pharmaceutical workers in Baxter, Air Conditioning workers in Daikin, Safai Karmchari workers in different parts of Delhi and other cities and so many more. These workers struggles have also seen militant participation of women, Dalit, migrant, contract and unorganized workers.

Beyond headlines of ‘national’ newspapers and Facebook timelines, new politics of resistance, new forms and contents of agency of toiling people continue to emerge. A struggle for a society free from exploitations and oppressions. Armed with the lessons and legacy of history, and self-reflexive revolutionary theory, let us be more conscious of the critique of political economy, the systemic tyrannies, and emerging working class subjectivity. Along with and beyond ‘save liberal space’ struggles and ‘right to dissent’ and ‘speaking truth to power’, let us help generalize the struggles within and beyond borders and identities. Against the tyranny of time-space and against the act of forgetting, We celebrate the May Day to reaffirm our commitment to advance the class struggle, and to the irresistible dreams of a future society free from exploitation, oppression, alienation which allows the fullest development of human with renewed respect for labour, nature, diversity and collectivity.’
