Dear Mr. Anant Kumar Hegde,
This letter refers to your comment to the effect that ‘As long as we have Islam in the world, there will be no end to terrorism. If we are unable to end Islam, we won’t be able to end terrorism.’
Your view came to my notice on my twitter feed. Piqued I decided to research further and landed on a news website which reported your above comment and accompanied it with a video clip of your. I decided to watch the video clip. Before the video could start ,came a long advertisement which I would have ordinarily skipped after five seconds but this time there was something that made me keep watching it.
It was the sight of a Muslim taxi driver complete with a beard, skull cap and surma being photographed by a rather nervous young girl.
Your statement had done something to my mind for a while and your anti-Islamic rant had fogged my reasoning and experience both. I was sure that the advertisement intended to show the Muslim driver in a negative light.
As it turned out the Muslim driver was a kind and caring person who went out of his way to help a lone girl on a deserted street at midnight. The advertisement also displayed the out of way generosity of a Hindu and a Christian.
What an irony it was to see that video before your clip. I finally decided not to see your clip. There was no need. Statements such as your do not have the power to make or break a country like ours. That advertisement was the best reply your divisive politics. The advertisement projected the everyday reality of this nation while your statement that “ If we are unable to end Islam, we won’t be able to end terrorism” reeked of your nefarious ambitions.
Ambitions that can be achieved only by dividing the country on communal lines. Ambitions for which communal harmony and secular existence is an anathema.
Your statement that “As long as we have Islam in the world, there will be no end to terrorism.” is a declaration of your ignorance about Islam and terrorism both.
You are not expected to be aware of Islam and its teaching but a champion of peace like you should have possessed knowledge of basic facts of terrorism.
If you knew anything about terrorism in India you would have known that terrorism as opposed to propagated belief is not Muslim monopoly.
A basic search would have landed you on a Wikipedia page that has a list of terrorist organizations banned by India As of 31 March 2015, mainly under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act:
Among the 38 listed organization you would have found these 22 names which have got nothing to do with Muslims or Islam.
All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF)
Akhil Bharat Nepali Ekta Samaj
Babbar Khalsa International (BKI)
Communist Party of India (Maoist),
Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) People’s War,

Tamil Nadu Liberation Army (TNLA)
Tamil National Retrieval Troops (TNRT)
United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA)
United National Liberation Front (UNLF)
The above list unlike your statement about Islam, is neither my prejudice nor a figment of my imagination. It is the official word of the Government of India.
Your statement is also a declaration of your utter disregard for Indian Penal Code which by your own admission you are doing for the last twenty years.
Section 153A of the Indian Penal Code says:
Whoever (a) by words, either spoken or written, or by signs or by visible representations or otherwise, promotes or attempts to promote, on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, caste or community or any other ground whatsoever, disharmony or feelings of enmity, hatred or ill-will between different religious, racial, language or regional groups or castes or communities, or (b) commits any act which is prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony between different religious, racial, language or regional groups or castes or communities, and which disturbs or is likely to disturb the public tranquility, . . . shall be punished with imprisonment which may extend to three years, or with fine, or with both.
Did it not occur to you once that you are violating IPC by badmouthing Islam. Oh! Sorry I forgot that your brethren in politics recently burned the constitution of India!
Compared to that a statement is a minor thing. Lets not even blame you for. You are just doing your job. Surviving.
