#RallyForTheValley, Reach Narmada Valley in huge numbers, Assemble at Indore Railway Station on 29th July noon
#NarmadaSatyagrah will start on 30th July at Rajghat, Badwani to resist the submergence of more than two lakhs people
For more than three decades Farmers, workers, potters, fisherfolks, men-women, young – old all have been fighting for a dignified livelihood and been resisting deprivation and displacement due to dams on Narmada river. These dams have caused havoc in their lives, submerged villages, towns, fields and with that their dreams, hopes and faith in the Indian Constitution, since it’s all been done in the name of development and public good.
Narmada Bachao Andolan, have constantly raised the issue emerging out of this struggle, challenging the development model constantly, questioning the development at what cost, for whose benefits and for whom?
Govt. has already constructed many dams and the tallest, biggest and most destructive Sardar Sarovar Project is yet to be completed, work on which is continuing in violation of Narmada Water Dispute Tribunal, Supreme Court orders and so on. NDA Govt. is hell bent on completing this at any cost for which they gave the permission in June 2014.
Even today nearly 40,000 families or more than two lakhs people are living in the submergence area of Sardar Sarovar Project without any satisfactory Resettlement & Rehabilitation (R&R). After the entire struggle till date only 11,000 families have got some worthwhile R&R in three states. Govt and authorities have fudged the data and filed false affidavits to claim that everyone is resettled and rehabilitated. This is completely false.
Even after observing the mass murder of an oldest civilisation and drowning of more than two lakhs people, Should we remain silent? Should we just see the Govt. doing all this? No! Never!
As Narmada waters start rising, people of the valley are determined to face the water and challenge this gross injustice. From July 30th, 2016 they will be camping on the banks of Narmada at Rajghat, Badwani.
Thousands of students, young people, activists and NBA supporters are coming to the valley to be with them. Are you interested?
