Tipu Sultan was a king who represented the best of India’s syncretic traditions, who gave more land and property to temples than mosques, who rebuilt temples plundered by Marathas, who prayed in temples, one of whose dreams was the installation of an idol, whose Tiger mascot became the emblem of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s Indian National Army and who Mahatma Gandhi used as an example of Hindu-Muslim unity. No wonder Muslims feel proud of Tipu Sultan and his tradition and why the RSS wants to vilify and destroy his image says Vikhar Ahmed Sayeed who has does extensive research on Tipu Sultan.
